Moderator’s Visit – Portknockie

Moderator's Visit May 2016

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Very Rev. Dr. Angus Morrison and his wife, Marion, visited the Presbytery of Moray in May. We were delighted when we heard that Dr. and Mrs. Morrison had chosen to worship in Findochty and Portknockie churches on Sunday 8th May.
Our Sunday School meets in the Seafield Hall each week and so we decided to have a Children’s service in the Hall. It was a very blessed and happy occasion with a large congregation of all ages coming along to share in this special day for our church.
When people came into the Hall, each person was given a brightly coloured fish, made by the children of the Sunday School and The Thursday Club…a reminder of how important this symbol was for Christian people long ago and still is now.
The children of the Sunday School and The Thursday Club took a major part in the service and they were awesome. We sang some songs, heard some words from the Bible read by Brieze, we learnt about the creation of the world, Parul sang a solo and was then joined by…?…… That was such a touching and emotional part of the service. We thought about refugees all over the world and everyone made a paper cross. That was the best fun and also reminded us to pray for all the people who are having to flee from their homes and lands because of war and conflict. Isaac led us in prayer and then afterwards, we all enjoyed a sandwich lunch together, beautifully prepared by some of the ladies in the church.
Dr. Morrison spoke to the children and to the congregation during the service and we were encouraged and pleased to hear that he had enjoyed the service so much. He praised the children for their input and also our Sunday School and Thursday Club leaders, Val, Heather and Morag, for their time and commitment to our children’s ministry.
We were honoured to welcome Dr. Morrison and Mrs. Morrison to our wee church and we hope that they enjoyed a happy time with us. We certainly enjoyed their company.
