Book Launch

On the evening of 15th October 2015 we gathered at the Kirk to celebrate the launch of our book, Findochty Kirk – 1853-2013 – Celebrating 150 Years. The idea for the book began when David Pirie, our Session Clerk, suggested that we record the special events that had taken place in 2013, as well as bring together and share, some extracts from various historical records. His idea gathered momentum. Fiona Stephenson undertook the research, and with the help of others, gathered together lots of photographs and other material and produced a book of historical significance.
Guest of Honour, Clare Russell, the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire officially launched the book and then the ‘Buckie Blethers’ a well-known group of Doric speakers, read extracts from the book in their own unique style.

Later, everyone gathered in the Hall to enjoy good company and cheese and wine, beautifully prepared by Jimmy Bremner and his team.
A powerpoint display of Findochty photos, old and new, many of which are also featured in the book, generated a lot of interest and sharing of memories. Copies of the book were snapped up, with a fair few heading out of Findochty as presents to friends and family.

The book, priced at £8, is available to buy at our local shop, Keystore in Findochty, at the Church or by contacting David Pirie or Fiona Stephenson. All proceeds go to our Restoration Appeal Fund which will be officially launched in Spring 2016.
